In the context of modern marine and civil engineering and, more particularly, the siting of coastal and offshore structures, oil platforms, subsea cable and pipelines, scour is the erosion of the seabed or river bed by underwater tidal and current action, in many cases augmented by wave action.
The solid profile of any underwater structure increases local current velocity and causes the sediment bed to go into shear ~ This is SCOUR. Scour may, in time have a detrimental effect on the stability of structures through increased stress or may expose them to potential damage necessitating costly maintenance.
Seabed Scour Control Systems (SSCS) has researched and developed a unique system that, incorporated into a cost effective and internationally proven method, provides a permanent solution to the problem of scour without any necessity for future maintenance. |
